First Flight
Last Friday, we took the boys on their first plane ride. We were heading to Texas to search for a new house! Nicholas was pretty excited, mostly about the free apple juice on the plane! We woke the boys up really early and headed to KCI. Everything was going great, we checked our bags, waited (almost) patiently for the plane, and boarded without issue. Our 1 1/2 hour flight ended up being nearly a disaster. The weather was pretty stormy so the turbulence was awful. Nicholas didn't seem to mind although I felt close to being sick! We were landing in Dallas, 200 ft. from the runway, ready to land when our pilot pulled up and accelerated quickly. Everyone on the flight was white as a ghost and it was silent. Funny Nicholas said, "we're going to crash!". But he wasn't scared, he was just being silly. Several times he would say we were going down or up. Hopefully we didn't scare anyone. Because of the scary weather, we headed to Shreveport, Louisiana for fueling and better weather. A 1 1/2 hour flight took 5 1/2 hours!!! While in the Dallas airport, we waited in line FOREVER to figure out a new flight for us (we obviously missed our 11:10am flight). We RAN to the other end of the airport and caught the next flight out. Unfortunately, a 40-50 minute flight took over 2 hours because of the crazy flight path we were required to take! Instead of looking at houses on Friday afternoon (we were supposed to arrive at noon), we stopped for dinner (we hadn't eaten since breakfast!!!). The kids did awesome on the long day of airplanes and waiting. We figure it was a good trial run, probably one of the worst flights they will ever be on! The best part was that our luggage was WAITING FOR US after our second flight! It made it! We were worried about the car seats, etc. wondering how we'd leave the airport! More about the trip later...
